Miscellaneous Poems

Happy Father's Day to you.
Do you know how much I love you?
I love you with all my heart.
I miss you when we are apart.
I think of you all day.
I have fun when we play.
This poem is about to end
I LOVE YOU!
From your best friend.

Walking With Grandpa

~Author Unknown ~
I like to walk with Grandpa
His steps are short like mine
He doesn't say "Now Hurry Up!"
He always takes his time.
Most people have to hurry
They do not stop and see.
I'm Glad that God made Grandpa
"Unrushed" and young like me.

(Grand)Mother's Day Poem

~ written by Angela R. Campbell ~

My hand in yours
for a moment in time.
Now a Mommy myself,
with kids' hands in mine.
Holding them, teaching them,
loving them too.
All that I offer them,
I learned from you.

Mary Had A Little Cold
Mary had a little cold,
But wouldn't stay at home..
And every where that Mary went
The cold was sure to roam.
It wondered into Molly's eyes
And filled them full of tears
It jumped from there to Bobby's nose
And then to Jimmy's ears.
It painted Annie's throat bright red
And swelled poor Little Johnny's head
Dora had a fever and a cough put Jack to bed
The moral of this little tale,
Is very quickly said
Mary could have saved a lot of pain
With just one day in bed!

Reasons I STAY in Daycare

One day with a little child is worth a ZILLION with a crabby, badmouthed, boss at the bank!!
I make my own hours, choose my own clients and set my own pay.

I pay way less taxes and often save my husband tax money. Who else deducts the light bill, water bill, garbage bill, interest on house, cable bill, cell phone bill, 2nd phone line on their taxes.

I am home when my 10 year old runs in with a crumpled ribbon from the class spelling bee.

I am home when my 13 year old brings home a muddy puppy that "followed" him home.

I am home when my 17 year old and his friends are hanging around a Nintendo in the basement instead of a water bong.

I can run a load of laundry, run a preschool program, answer my email, drink a cup of coffee and still be doing my JOB!!

Yes, the hours are long, Yes the pay direct to me is often low (if figured that way.) But I recently turned down an executive position, suit wearing, beeper caring JOB which would pay $30,000 a year to do what I do. MAKE A DIFFERENCE ...in the lives of each child I care for and MY OWN.

A Father's Day Poem

If You Give A Mom A Muffin
If you give a mom a muffin,
She'll want a cup of coffee to go with it.
She'll pour herself some.
Her three-year-old will spill the coffee.
She'll wipe it up.
Wiping the floor, she'll find dirty socks.
She'll remember she has to do laundry.
When she puts the laundry in the washer,
She'll trip over boots and bump into the freezer.
Bumping into the freezer will remind her
she has to plan for supper.
She will get out a pound of hamburger.
She'll look for her cookbook
("101 Things To Do With a Pound of Hamburger").
The cookbook is setting under a pile of mail.
She will see the phone bill, which is due tomorrow.
She will look for her checkbook.
The check book is in her purse
that is being dumped out by her two-year-old
. She'll smell something funny.
She'll change the two-year-old's diaper.
While she is changing the diaper, the phone will ring.
Her five-year-old will answer and hang up.
She'll remember she wants to phone a friend for coffee.
Thinking of coffee will remind her
that she was going to have a cup.
And chances are... If she has a cup of coffee,
Her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it.

Why God Made Little Girls
God made the world with its towering trees
Majestic Mountains and restless seas
Then paused and said,
"It needs one more thing
Someone to laugh and dance and sing
To walk in the woods and gather flowers
To commune with nature in the quiet hours."
So God made little girls
With laughing eyes and bouncing curls
With joyful hearts and infectious smiles
Enchanting ways and feminine wiles,
And when He'd completed the task He'd begun
He was pleased and proud of the job He'd done
For the world, when seen through a little girl's eyes
Greatly resembles Paradise.

A Mother's Hopes

May you delight in the beauty and wonder of this big world
May you come to know what is right and what is wrong
May you smile often and laugh freely
May you be able to stand strong in what you believe
May you live life with energy and enthusiasm
May you have wisdom when it comes to choosing friends and activities
May you be aware of the precious gift of each day
Most of all, Little One, may you know you are treasured and loved

Handprint Poems

HAND PRINTS ON THE WALL
One day as I was picking he toys up off the floor,
I noticed a small hand print on the wall beside the door.
I knew that it was something that I'd seen most every day,
but this time when I saw it there I wanted it to stay.
Then tears welled up inside my eyes,
I knew it wouldn't last
for every mother knows
her children grow up way too fast.
Just then I put my chores aside
and held my children tight.
I sang to them sweet lullabies
and rocked into the night.
Sometimes we take for granted,
all those things that seem so small.
Like one of God's great treasures...
A small hand print on the wall.

TINY HANDPRINTS

Tiny handprints grow so fast
Their awkward groping soon will clasp
A ball, a book, a sweetheart's hand
A diploma, breifcase, wedding band.
Tiny handprints grow so strong
It doesn't take them very long
To snap a shirt, to paint, to draw
To labor hard, to drive a car.
Tiny handprints grow to be
A person that is quite unique
A wonderful mix of so many things
With his own feelings, thoughts and dreams.
Tiny handprints grow to rely
On his parents to bring him up just right
His parents pray that when he's grown
He'll say their job has been well done.
Tiny handprints are ours to love
The sweetest gift from God above
A miracle that never is surpassed
How sad they grow up way to fast.
~ Meredith Harris ~

Fingerprints

My dirty little fingerprints
I've left on every wall,
And on the drawers and table tops,
I've really marked them all.
But here is one that won't rub off,
I'm giving it to you,
Because I'm thankful for a (mother or father) just like you!

Fingerprints-

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small,
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.

But everyday I am growing,
-I'll be grown up someday,
And all these tiny handprints
Will simply fade away.

So here's a final handprint
Just so you can recall,
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.
I love you!

A Reminder-
This is to remind you
When I have grown so tall,
That once I was quite little
And my hands were very small.

Handprint-

Here is my hand
So tiny, so small
to hang somewhere
upon your wall.

This is my hand.
My hand will do
A 1000 loving things for you
And you will remember
When I am tall...
That once my hand
Was just this small.

This is the hand
You used to hold
When I was only
__ years old.

My Hand-

I give my hand
to you this day!
Remember me now,
as I grow and play!

I used my thumb and fingers too
To make this flower just for you.
It doesn't smell, it doesn't grow.
It's from me to let you know;

Love you (Mom or Dad)?
Love you not?
Love you, (Mom or Dad)!
Love you a lot!

Children's Hands

~ By Judith Peitsch ~

Thank you Lord for dirty hands
That touch my stove and fridge;
For sticky little fingers that
Try to build a bridge.
For careless hands that go astray
In search of something new;
For hands to hold and show the way
As mothers often do.

For precious little hands in which
Great faith so abounds;
For silly little hands that reach
To touch a mother's frown.

And thank you for Your guiding hand
That leads me to the light;
That lifts me when I stumble
And points me to the right.

As little hands reach out to me
To show them what to do,
I'm steadied, reassured and loved
As I reach up to You.

A piece of me
I give to you.
I painted this flower
To say "I love you."

The heart is you.
The hand is me.
To show we are friends--
the best there can be.

I hope you will save it
And look back someday
At the flower we shared
On your special day.

I miss you when we're not together
I'm growing up so fast
See how big I've gotten
Since you saw me last?
As I grow, I'll change a lot,
The years will fly right by.
You'll wonder how I grew so quick
When and where and why?
So look upon this handprint (these handprints)
That's hanging on your wall.
And memories will come back of me,
When I was very small.

My Handprints - #3
My dirty little hand print
I've left on every wall
And on the drawers and table tops
I've really marked them all
But here is one that won't rub off
I'm giving it to you
Because I'm so thankful
for a mother just like you.

My Handprints - #4
I miss you when we're not together
I'm growing up so fast
See how big I've gotten
Since you saw me last?

As I grow, I'll change a lot,
The years will fly right by.
You'll wonder how I grew so quick
When and where and why?

So look upon this hand print plaque
That's hanging on your wall.
And memories will come back of me,
When I was very small

The Hands of A Child
~ by Amy Ethridge ~

When you look at the hand what do you see?
There are just some lines most would agree.
But take a closer look this very minute
And notice the treasures that are found within it.
The hand can be so many things,
From tulips to beautiful butterfly wings.
A Santa, an apple, even a heart,
A pumpkin, an umbrella, that's only a start.
The hand can be snowflakes that fall from the sky.
The hand can be a leprechaun trying to hide.
It can be the sunshine to brighten the day.
It can be a fish swimming away.
It can be a turkey strutting along,
Whatever you make it, you can't go wrong.
Just take a little time to look and see,
Where these hands came from,
And you'll surely agree
Your child, the artist, reaching his goal,
Created this for you with body and soul.
Keep it and use it till the time has past.
Then put it away so the memories will last.

Here my handprints are done
For everyone to view
I had so much fun
Doing this for you.

So look upon this handprint plaque
Hanging on your wall,
And memories will come back
Of me when I was small.

With Love
I am so very small and
my fingerprints so large,
that you sometimes get
discouraged when I
leave them on the walls.

All those messy prints,
when I am grown someday,
will only be a memory that
has been washed away.

So here's a set of prints,
to help you to recall,
just how those hands looked
when they were very small.

Another version:
I know you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.

But everyday I'm growing,
I'll be all grown up someday,
And all the smudgies that I did
Will surely fade away.

So here's another bunch of them
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.
~ Wendy Lyn ~

This is my hand
My hand will do
A thousand loving things for you
You will remember when I am tall,
That once my hand was just this small.

MY HANDS

These little hands can wave hello
or put smudges on the wall.
They can fold in prayer,
throw a kiss or
reach up when I say, "so tall."
They will clasp your hand for an Autumn stroll.
Or shape a dinosaur from clay.
But most of all, they will stay with you
when I'm grown and far away.

I miss you when we're not together
I'm growing up so fast
See how big I've gotten
Since you saw me last?
As I grow, I'll change a lot,
The years will fly right by.
You'll wonder how I grew so quick
When and where and why?
So look upon this hand print plaque
That's hanging on your wall.
And memories will come back of me,
When I was very small

Goodbye Poems

You are a very special person
And you should know,
How I loved to have you in my care
How fast the years did go!

Please come back to visit me
As through the grades you go
Try hard to learn all that you can
There's so much to know

One thing I tried to teach you
To last your whole life through,
Is to know that you are special
Just because you are you!

Moving On
This little one I've cared for
Is moving on today
I'll try to be the strong one
As those footsteps walk away
My love will always follow
Wherever he shall go
Though I will not be with him
I will pray for him to know
That the one who loved and cared for him
Did not leave him as it seems
Though he moves on, he'll still be here
Within my treasured dreams
It's been my task to guide him
Protect him from all harm
That task now falls to someone new
As I cross my empty arms
And wish and hope and pray for him
To know another one
Who loves him in this special way
As I have always done.

Remember
This is hard to say, but I will try . . .
Goodbye (child's name here) Goodbye
Will you remember the earliest years?
It is important to me that you remember them with smiles not tears
Remember the time when you were small
Remember the time when we played ball
Remember the time we went for a walk
Remember the time you just wanted to talk
Remember the time we played in the sun
Remember the time we had party fun
Remember the time we laughed real loud
Remember the time we made pictures out of clouds
Remember the time you ran outside
Remember the time you fell and cried
Remember the time you needed a friend Remember the time you hoped would never end
Remember the time we sang together
Remember the dancing forever and ever
Remember the time we read from your book
Remember the love behind the look
Remember I care about you and all that you do
Remember I am waiting you hear from you
Remember I want for you only the best
Remember I know you can do the rest
Love,

Good Bye Pillow Case Poem
Now I lay me down to sleep
These hands I'll count instead of sheep
And remember all the friends I made,
When at Ms. (facility name) house I played

Thank You for Entering
Sometimes a person enter our lives.
Sometimes it's just for a few minutes, a few hours, a few days.
Thanks for coming into my life.
You brought to me your smile, your kindness, and your wit.
Most of all you.
And, I thank you for entering!

Dear (Mom & Dad's name)
I give you back Taylor, the same child you confidently entrusted in my care. I give her back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible and more mature than she was.
Although she would have attained her growth in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch her personality unfold day by day and marvel at this splendid miracle of development.

I give her back reluctantly, for having spent this time together in the narrow confines of my house, we have grown close, have become a part of each other, and we shall always retain a little of each other.

Ten years from now if we meet on the street, Taylor & I, a light will shine in our eyes, a smile on our lips, and we shall feel that bond of understanding once more, this bond we feel today. We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned and enriched our lives together.

I wish it could go on indefinitely, but give her back I must. Take care of her, for she is precious.
Remember that I shall always be interested in Taylor and her destiny, wherever she goes, whatever she does, whoever she becomes. Her joys and sorrows I'll be happy to share.

Please call on me if there is anything further I can ever do for her. I shall always be her friend.
